Polo at the Point, Fairhope AL

Polo at the Point is an annual charity event at the Point Clear Polo Club that benefits cancer research, children’s charities, and various local non-profits. This was my first year in attendance and in fact my first time at a polo match. I love photographing sports and if you’ve been following along on this blog for any length of time you’ll know I love photographing animals, so going to shoot an event like this seemed like a no-brainer. There was of course the usual polo fanfare — lots of fancy dress, champagne, classic cars, and women adorned with outlandish hats that looked like they could double as an overly-decorated sail, catch a gust of wind and take flight at any second — but my main focus was the action on the field. Between the speed of the horses, the harsh midday sun (quite literally not a cloud in the sky), and all the spectators along the sidelines, this was indeed a challenging shoot, but it was a fun one and I came away with a few images I’m quite pleased with.
